Confirmation of Salmonella at Sol Rio de Luna y Mares Hotel Cuba

Following reports on TripAdvisor of holiday illness at the Sol Rio de Luna y Mares Hotel, Cuba, we have been instructed by two holidaymakers, one of whom was confirmed as having contracted salmonella whilst spending their honeymoon at the resort in August 2011.
The hotel is promoted and featured by Thomson, Thomas Cook and First Choice. Thomas Cook is said to be aware of the increased number of complaints from holidaymakers suffering illness, thought to be related to poor standards of food and hygiene at the hotel. Some health and safety investigations have taken place.
Reports were made of undercooked chicken being served at the hotel and also birds and flies in the restaurant plus bats flying around the food areas at night – all of which can spread serious infection.
Symptoms suffered by guests at the Sol Rio de Luna y Mares in Cuba included diarrhoea, vomiting, stomach cramps and headaches, all of which can be attributed to food poisoning.
