The Iberostar Punta Cana, at Bavaro, is promoted by First Choice Holidays, and is a 4-star hotel, boasting a beach-front location. Hotel facilities include 8 restaurants, including 2 buffet restaurants and 6 á la carte restaurants, Oriental, Gourmet, Steakhouse and International. Holidaymakers have complained that food was tasteless and often re-used from the previous day. Poor food and hygiene were thought to be linked to the outbreaks of illness.
