More food poisoning reports at Radisson BLU in Egypt


We are continuing to receive reports of high levels of illness from holidaymakers who have stayed in the Radisson BLU Hotel, Taba, during October and November 2010.

This follows reports of illness at the same hotel in July 2010 when holidaymakers complained of gastric illness and cases of suspected food poisoning.

The all-inclusive Radisson BLU Resort Hotel, Taba, Egypt has over 300 rooms and guests are served food on a buffet-style basis. Poor standards of hygiene have been reported and guests have suffered symptoms of diarrhoea, vomiting and stomach cramps, which could be linked to Salmonella food poisoning, Campylobacter or E-Coli.

One holiday maker who posted his review of the Radisson Blu on an internet site said: "During our time we both got very ill and were extremely mistreated by the doctor. I could not leave the room for 5 days and was given 27 tablets a day to take on an empty stomach. For the last 4 days of our holiday we could only eat bread as the hygiene in the restaurants was disgraceful. There were flies all over the food whilst the chefs were cooking and the food, which was not covered, was laid out 3 hours before dinner even began."

Another holidaymaker who stayed at the Radisson BLU and also suffered sickness said: "In the small restaurant which they reopened after an infestation of bugs (apparently) there were some unexpected visitors to the beef chopping board one night. When I asked for the beef to be cut, the chef started to carve the meat and three beetles came from beneath the meat. We reported all this to our rep who then got the manager and the head chef to have a meeting with us."
