"Salmonella food poisoning is one of the most common types of holiday illness in hotels abroad"
Possible Salmonella outbreak at Club Playa Blanca Lanzarote
Earlier this year, reports were made of a possible Salmonella outbreak at the four-star Club Playa Blanca in Lanzarote, when holidaymakers were taken ill after eating at the resort. Many holidaymakers fell ill with symptoms of food poisoning , including stomach cramps, severe vomiting and diarrhoea, and some were prescribed antibiotics. A local chemist confirmed that many people had complained of illness after eating at the Club Playa Blanca.
Thomas Cook has claimed the illness was due to a bug going round the hotel, and that it was nothing to do with Salmonella. Complaints were also made against Playa Blanca in Lanzarote during August and September, 2008.
